Artist's Statement |
Although I enjoy painting rural LANDSCAPESs, especially on-site, I am better known for my CITYSCAPESs of the Cincinnati area. This is fine with me, as it is my way of honoring our city and its great buildings.
Each time I paint, I try to exceed the quality of the previous painting. This insures that I continue to grow as an artist and that I offer my best to my customers.
More and more, I want my paintings to be more "painterly," to show brushstrokes, to use thick paint. The effort to create reality on the canvas, to impress with an ability to duplicate an object or scene on canvas, seems like a great insult to the viewer. The artist must first learn to duplicate what he sees, then he must go beyond that accomplishment and begin to create something more.
